“In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In everything, love.” - St. Augustine

Essential Beliefs of Cityline Church

We believe that there are essential beliefs and non-essential beliefs. It is incredibly easy to get stuck on the non-essentials and completely miss out on what Jesus did for us and what he is calling us to. We don’t expect everyone to think exactly the same or see eye to eye on the issues of theology or doctrine. However, at Cityline we believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. The ancient church father St. Augustine offers this statement. "In the essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love."

About God

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, un-changing, perfect, creator of all things, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, holy. We believe that God is good, loving, faithful and that he has a plan for your life.

About Jesus

We believe that Jesus is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. Jesus was born of a virgin, he lived a sinless life, he died on a cross as a sacrifice for the sins of a fallen humanity. He was buried and we believe that he was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures; he ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory.

About The Holy Spirit

We believe that the work of the Holy Spirit is to bring awareness of a person’s need for the forgiveness of sin through Christ. For those who place their faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit renews the soul, empowers Christ-like living, imparts spiritual gifts, and guides people into all truth.

About The Bible

We believe the Bible is the authoritative word of God. The Bible is God’s Word to all people. The Bible was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is truth without any mixture or error and is completely relevant to our lives today. The Bible is the basis for everything we believe and the foundation for everything we teach and do.

About Humanity

We believe that all people were created in the image of God for a loving relationship with God but became separated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.

About Salvation

We believe that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. The blood of Jesus, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people recognize and confess their sin and place their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God to be received it cannot be earned.

About The Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The Church is not limited to any one institution or denomination; it is composed of all people who have asked Jesus Christ for forgiveness and made Him leader of their lives. The church is committed to the teachings of Jesus, to obeying His commands, and it seeks to bring the gospel to the world. The church is not perfect because it involves imperfect people, however the church commits to work together in love and unity, with the ultimate goal of following Jesus and making him known to a broken world.

Cityline Church is an independent, non-denominational church.
