The Psalms are a collection of songs, prayers and poetry that express the heart and soul of humanity in relation to God.

1  The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4  Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the  LORD forever. Psalm 23

1  The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1

“The experience of a life without lack depends first and foremost upon the presence of God in our lives, because the source of this life is God himself.” Dallas Willard

16  Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17  “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18  “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery,  you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19  honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.” 20  “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still
lack?” 21  Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the
poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22  When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Matthew 19:16-22

Jesus: I am what you need, and I am enough.

“God is not worried he is going to run out of something. God is beyond rich. He has so much that he will never run out of any of it. It is so very important to remember this when we are fretting over a perceived need. In such a time we may be tempted to think that maybe, just maybe, God is as stingy and small as we are. He is not. God loves to give. God loves to forgive.” -Dallas Willard

SOAKING IN PSALM 23

  • Practice

Lectio Divina– A Latin phrase meaning ‘divine or holy reading’. This is an ancient form of reading and praying the word of God.

1. Read (Lectio) invite the Holy Spirit to lead you as you slowly read the passage twice, pausing as
needed in between.
2. Reflect (Meditatio) Meditating on the passage you have read, choose one word or phrase that you
have noticed more than others during your reading.
(Re-Read)- Slowly re-read the scripture.
3. Respond (Oratio) Respond in prayer. What do you sense God is saying to you? Tell Him how you
feel, encouraged, challenged, and comforted by.
4. Rest (Contemplatio) Simply take a few moments just to sit in God’s presence in silence.

Jesus is a shepherd worth following.
