The Danger of Pretending

May 24, 2026    Bishop Jack Sheets Sr.

Jesus warns against the danger of looking righteous on the outside while our hearts remain unchanged. In Matthew 6, He addresses three spiritual practices—giving, praying, and fasting—emphasizing that our motivation matters more than our actions. The Pharisees were masters at religious activities but their hearts were far from God. True righteousness isn't about impressing others or earning recognition; it's about connecting with God from a sincere heart. When we practice spiritual disciplines, we must ask ourselves: whose approval are we seeking—God's or others'? Authentic righteousness is an inward matter of the heart, not outward performance.
